Its the start of an adventurous, unpredictable journey into the wilderness. Inspired by Jesus’ 40 Days in the wilderness after His baptism, and the book, 40 Days Wild by Troy Fitzgerald, this experience is anything but ordinary. I’ll be reading the daily devotional found in the book, in addition to a few other things, with the sole intention of drawing closer to God and aligning my life with His. I want to experience life in a new way — God’s way.
Whats wild to me is that today is day 1, and I’ve already been struggling to do simple things like get out of bed and drink water. Going into the wilderness is not without its challenges. I don’t expect it to be easy, instead I expect to be transformed.
So here is the promise I choose to claim today, from Psalm 145:18
“The Lord is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.”
We can only be changed, refined, shaped into His likeness when we choose Him. When we call on Jesus with sincerity He always shows up. Getting here wasn’t easy, I had to pray, pray and pray some more to be able to grab hold to the promise that God is never far away. To believe that today will be a good day.
By the name of Jesus alone, we are conquerors.
So in addition to reading the 40 Days Wild daily devotional, I’ll be doing a few other wild things for the next 40 days…
Daily Meditation – Spending set-aside periods of time in silence, contemplation of the Word, and listening to God
Raw Food Fast – Eating only raw, fresh foods to cleanse the body and mind
Daily Exercise – Some type of physical activity that engages the muscles, bones and joints
Using plants and herbs for medicinal and nutritional uses only – Eliminating caffeine and other chemically altering substances
Using Social Media only as necessary – no scrolling or aimless wandering
I am so excited to see what God is going to do in these coming weeks!
Please pray for me as I embark on this journey with many others in our Youth Group! Check out YouthGlendale.wordpress.com for daily thoughts and prayers during 40 Days Wild.
