I arrived home today after a long month of research, to find my refrigerator pretty empty in the edible department. So I planned a quick shopping trip! Food City, the 99centonly store, and Sprouts. I filled my fridge with edibles for $35 and will be able to eat for a week. (This includes the lunches I will pack when working doubles or going on explorations.)
Check out the things I thought were essentials for this first week in June.
Fruits: bananas, nectarines, melon, avocados, tomatos,
Veggies: onions, garlic, zucchini, brussel sprouts, mushrooms, bell peppers, kale, parsley,
Other: eggs, yogurt, rice cakes, almond cheese, almond milk, vege tuna, queso fresco,
For tonights dinner, I am sautéing brussel sprouts, bell peppers, and mushrooms together; surrounding that with a few ravioli I found in my freezer, topped with a little marinara sauce and queso fresco.
And for tomorrows lunch Ive packed these in my lunch box:
mini bell peppers, almond cheese, rice cakes, an avocado, a can of tuna-less tuna, a banana, a nectarine, juice box, greek yogurt.
Tips for a good shopping list:
-Think Fresh
-Think about what you have in your pantry, freezer, and fridge. What can you get for free here??
-Money Management. Where can you get good quality, decently priced ingredients for your culinary experiments?
-Buy what you need for the week. No need to overstock the food supply.
-Make a list. This insures you buy only what you need. (I get sidetracked often so this helps me be efficient.)
Enjoy your shopping, Your Freedom of Choice.
